February 26th, 1943: Sugar Ray Robinson

On this day in 1943, Sugar Ray Robinson wins a 10th-round decision over Jake LaMotta in their bout, which is held at Olympia Stadium.

The contest, their third, will further help to establish Robinson, who learned the “sweet science” as a young man toiling at Brewster Recreation Center, as “Fighter of the Century,” an honor later bestowed upon him by the Associated Press.
