Using Michigan Public School $$ to Support Private Schools

So Michigan Governor Rick Snyder (R) is throwing even more support to his state-run and state-wide (meaning in Detroit only) school district, the Educational Achievement Authority (EAA).

It was revealed just last week that the EAA schools can’t make payroll or pay their vendors or basic expenses, so money was secretly “loaned” to the EAA from the Detroit Public Schools (DPS). It is no coincidence that Snyder appointed Roy Roberts to oversee the finances of both the EAA AND DPS. Mr. Roberts then, after giving (“loaning”) DPS funds to the EAA, says that DPS still needs his services as Emergency Financial Manager because DPS doesn’t have its finances in shape yet.

Isn’t that called “robbing Peter to pay Paul”? Why not put all of that effort and all of those resources to improve any PUBLIC schools that need assistance instead of developing any entire new “school district” that robs the old school district.

One reason could be that DPS employees are unionized and EAA employees are not…
